In terms of its original Business Plan, the KZNTCC was tasked with purchasing buildings throughout KZN for use as offices mainly for the regional taxi structures in the province. The KZNTCC currently owns 14 such buildings – 11 regional offices, provincial offices for SANTACO and the KZNTA and an office for itself. These offices have provided a broad platform for the taxi industry that did not exist previously and have given the industry the capacity to use these offices as business bases as well as a venue for training in the different regions. These offices are owned by the KZNTCC and made available to the regional structures on a cost recovery basis. In the case of the Santaco offices, the KZNTCC also pays all the operating expenses for these offices and then recovers these expenses from the KZN Department of Transport on a monthly basis. The KZNTCC has, in addition, completed a major office upgrade project to create a 50sq/m board/training room at as many of the offices as possible.
