What is the KZN Taxi and Commuter Corporation?

  • The KZNTCC is a Non-Profit Company (NPC) established with initial funding of R 24 000 000 from the Toyota SA Siyaya Refund Programme.
  • In this regard KZN took the lead in the taxi industry in SA by setting up such a company.
  • The company has sixteen directors broadly representing the taxi industry in KZN through the KZN Transport Alliance and SANTACO KZN.
  • The Chairman is Mr Boy Zondi and the Vice Chairman is Mr Gerald Ferror.
  • The company has effectively been operating since 1 February 2009 and employs a Chief Operating Officer Neil Lamble, a Training Manager Nompumelelo Msomi and two Executive Directors (Mr Gerald ferror and Mr Jeffrey Ngobese) who run the day to day affairs of the company.
  • The company makes use of contractors to assist with major training projects as required.
  • The company owns a property in Durban from which it operates and where board meetings are held. In addition thhe KZNTCC owns 13 other buildings at various locations in KZN.
  • The KZNTCC’s Business Plan was approved by Toyota SA and the company was formed with the blessing of the then Minister of Transport Mr Jeff Hadebe. The original Business Plan had three main components:
    • The purchase of regional offices for the leadership of the taxi industry in KZN ;
    • The establishment of a Bursary Scheme for the dependents of industry stakeholders;
    • The acquisition of a 10% share of the Halfway Toyota dealership in Howick KZN.
